Laser Dentistry In Toledo & Sylvania

At Our Dental Office in Sylvania

At Dental Health Associates, we are continually updating our technology options to reflect advances in modern dentistry. One of the most exciting advances is the use of sophisticated lasers to diagnose and treat disease and enhance the appearance of the teeth and gums. The team at Dental Health Associates has wholeheartedly embraced the use of dental lasers in a wide variety of treatments and procedures, including some surgical procedures, cosmetic treatment and tooth restoration.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

There are many benefits to using a laser in dentistry treatment. Our dental team has found that lasers enhance the precision of treatment — for example, we can treat a specific spot of tissue without affecting the surrounding tissue. Lasers reduce some of the risks and possible discomfort associated with certain dental treatments. In many cases, patients need much less anesthesia with laser dentistry. When a laser is used, it may eliminate the need for the use of sutures or stitches. The high-energy light beam helps exposed blood vessels to clot, in turn minimizing bleeding and promoting a more rapid recovery after oral surgery. The light beam also sterilizes the treatment area to lower the risk of developing a bacterial infection.

Our Sylvania dental patients like laser dentistry because of all of these benefits and more. Lasers are quieter than a traditional dental drill (with its high-pitched whine) so treatment is more relaxing and comfortable.

Laser Dentistry Treatments

General Dentistry Treatments: Dental lasers are used to detect cavities in their early stages, kill the bacteria in a cavity and treat infections in a root canal. They can also be used to perform biopsies of suspicious tissue. And, lasers can be used for the early detection and treatment of cold sores and other oral lesions.

Cosmetic Treatments: Lasers can be incorporated into treatments to improve the appearance of the teeth and gums. These treatments include specific types of gum recontouring to reduce prominent gums. Also, lasers can be used to cure (harden) white filling material and dental bonding material.

Restorative Treatments: Lasers can be used in a procedure called crown lengthening. During crown lengthening, a laser reshapes the gum and bone tissue to expose healthier tooth structure, thereby creating a more stable foundation for a tooth restoration (e.g., dental crown). Also, a laser can be used to expose partially erupted wisdom teeth that might need to be removed.

Laser dentistry is extremely safe when performed by a qualified dentist that has the appropriate education and training. If lasers are used during your treatment, you will be asked to wear an eye shield to protect your eyes from the laser beam.

Solea CO2 laser: is changing the way Sylvania patients go to the dentist. Solea is the first carbon dioxide laser cleared by the FDA for use on the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. The Dental Health Associates team can use the laser to accomplish a variety of dental tasks in a single appointment, including fillings and soft tissue procedures and treatment.
